Matthew Rollo (11) organised the event in memory of his grandmother, Margaret O‘Kane, who died from pancreatic cancer in June 2013.

“My mum, Margaret, was manageress of Dobbins for many years and a very well-known and well-loved member of the community,” said Matthew’s mum, Barbara Rollo.

“She herself was on the Cancer Research Committee in Carrickfergus and organised a 5K run every year from Dobbins.

“This event was Matthew’s idea as he wants to try and make sure no other family feels as sad as ours has over the loss of his nanny.”

Family, friends, as well as members of Greenisland Football Club will all be taking part.

“So far he has raised over £300 and those running the race are donating £5 on the day. Ideally we would love the total to reach £500,” Barbara added.

The 5k will follow the local park run route from Carrickfergus leisure centre and will start at 11am.
