Matties charity bash raises a scorching £1,400

REVELLERS at Mattie's Meeting House in Cairncastle got into the summer mood during the annual Shorts and Shades fundraising bash, raising a whopping £1,400 in the process.

Great weather, cocktails and a sizzling barbecue helped ease everyone in to the party atmosphere and the event was a roaring success, with people dancing the night away to music supplied by the talented Alan Mayberry and family. There was also a guest appearance from local X-Factor finalist, Philip Magee.

The fundraising event was organised by Cairncastle Community Association. The committee will be donating some of the money raised to local man Chris Hamill, who is travelling to Peru this summer to assist in a building project in some of the country’s poorest areas with the Madventurer Foundation. Every penny raised by the charity directly benefits communities in the developing world, with all money going to the purchase of building materials and equipment.

Siobhan Mulvenna, chairwoman of the community association, said: “The Shorts and Shades event continues to be a huge success, with everyone entering wholeheartedly into the summer spirit. It is a great night’s fun for an excellent cause, and the generosity of the locals and the tireless commitment of the committee never ceases to amaze me.”

The committee would like to thank everyone who supported the event by either donating time, money or gifts for the auction and raffle, as well as all partygoers who got into the spirit of the night with loud shorts and bright shades.
