Maureen abseils Ramore’s cliffs

BRAVE Ballymena octogenarian Maureen Gilmore took on and conquered the Ramore Head Abseil in Portrush earlier this month.

With sheer grit and determination and despite very inclement weather, Maureen (81) managed to go up against the daunting cliff walls on April 7 and raised £2,500 for Marie Curie.

Maureen said: “Thanks to everyone who sponsored me, friends, family, local businesses and the public. I had an amazing experience and think I’m still on cloud nine from the adrenaline!

“The organisers and abseil staff were superb and really looked after everyone’s safety. I have so far raised £2,500 for Marie Curie Cancer Care which is just the icing on the cake”.

Cheryl Cunningham, Events Fundraiser said: “This was the first abseil for Marie Curie Cancer Care at Ramore Head and even though the weather was against us, delaying the event, the feedback from Maureen and the other participants once they abseiled was fantastic!

“We are delighted with the turn out and support for the Charity and hope to be back next year with a bigger and better event, hopefully we will get the weather”

Marie Curie had over 80 participant’s abseil down the Ramore Cliffs.

All money raised from the event should provide approximately 400 hours of nursing care for those in need in patient’s homes throughout Northern Ireland.

The care and support given to patients is provided free of charge to patients and their families. Care costs millions to provide and the charity depends on the support of the public to fund its services.

By taking part in the Abseil or any other Marie Curie events, supporters will be helping the charity reach many cancer patients and their families here in Northern Ireland.
