Maureen held in high esteem

At Requiem Mass on Tuesday, Fr Brian Fitzpatrick described the Lurgan woman as a ‘believer’ who put her faith in the Lord.

Mrs McCorry had been heading to Mass in St Peter’s Church, North Street on Friday evening when she was in collision with a lorry.

Fr Fitzpatrick said: “She was devoted to her husband, Peadar, of 47 years, and by her closeness to her children and grandchildren, she never lost the joy of music, of the craic and of stories with her family and friends.

“Her latest wee granddaughter Erin only arrived in the past couple of months, and it gave her great joy to see her own child, Christopher, and Maria, settling down with their new baby girl. With all her family she was unfailingly loving, giving and caring, not listening to criticism or finding fault with anyone, but seeking out the good in them to build them up.

“Whether she was enjoying the sun on a cruise or the Irish weather on a parish trip, or just up the town, Maureen had her high heels on, and her affectionate nature made her popular among friends in Kilwilke and around town, as many of them told me themselves at Masses over the weekend, and in the wake house these past couple of days. I know these memories of love shared have been of great comfort to Peadar and his family. Both of them together faced the incredibly difficult task of grieving a son when Paul died, but Maureen took this loss and any other problems she had to the Adoration Chapel.”

Deputy Mayor of Craigavon Catherine Seeley said: “My thoughts and prayers and those of the entire community will be with with the family and friends of the lady whom lost her life in this traffic collision.”

SDLP Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly said: “There is very little that can be said to allay the pain of a family after such a sudden and tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers also go to the driver involved in this terrible accident who must also be suffering considerable distress.”

DUP Councillor Carla Lockhart offered sympathy to the family and said: “North Street is a busy, vibrant street and I know that this tragedy will have rocked the community spirit that exists in the North Lurgan community.”
