Maureen prepares for Kenyan mission

Fifty-one year-old Maureen, who is a nursing auxiliary at Belfast City Hospital, was inspired to go on the mission trip by a colleague who spent ten weeks in the same region of Nakaru in Kenya.

“Last year a colleague went for ten weeks,” explained Maureen.

“She did a presentation in her own church when she came back.

“I wanted to do a mission trip at some stage and I started praying about and felt that God put this particular trip on my heart.”

Maureen will join a team of ten travelling to Kenya in April with World Gospel Mission to work with the Africa Gospel Church.

“I will be serving in a Baby Rescue Centre,” explained Maureen. “We will be playing with the children and supporting them as much as possible.” In the afternoon we will be carrying out a children’s Bible ministry outside the centre in the local area.

“The centre is Christian based and does tremendous work. They look after children who have been abandoned or whose parents can’t cope with them.”

Maureen recently held a coffee morning to raise awareness of the work of the centre and was delighted with the response.

“I wanted to raise awareness about where I was going and share a bit of my witness,” she continued.
“Any money raised will go directly to the baby centre. We had a fantastic turn out and I was pleased with how it went.

“I have never done anything like this before so I am really excited about the trip.”

The Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Andrew Ewing, and Lisburn Councillor Rhoda Walker both attended the recent coffee morning to offer Maureen their support.

Councillor Rhoda Walker wished Maureen and the team well as they prepare for the trip ahead for this worthwhile cause.
