Maureen reached the grand age of 95

PROFOUND and heartfelt sympathy spread over a wide area when it was learned of the passing of Mrs Maureen Jane Bryson which took place at her home Lisnabrague Lodge, Scarva on Friday.

She was the dearly loved wife of the late George Arthur Bryson who predeceased her a number of years ago.

Mrs Bryson was brought up in the Donaghmore area and was the former Maureen Cummins and after her marriage in 1939 she went to reside at Rockmount and then, on the purchase of Lisnabrague Lodge, came to live there in 1956.

She had reached the grand age of 95 years. In her younger days she worked on the land which was connected to the farm and with their dairy herd she bottled their own milk.

She loved going to Hunts and latterly to Events and carriage Driving. She loved a good chat. For many years she played the organ in Fourtowns Presbyterian Church and indeed trained both Fourtowns and Poyntzpass Presbyterian Church Choirs being the instigator of bringing both choirs together.

Mrs Bryson was a woman who had a great singing voice she sang at different Guest Teas and Daffodil Teas throughout the district and had won many prizes for her singing. But her main interest was centred around her home and family.

She enjoyed all her grandchildren at home and in Australia and indeed it is there that her passing will be mostly felt. She followed their involvement through school, eventing, racing, driving, football and dancing.

She always took a keen interest and was up to date with their activities. She was a loyal and faithful supporter of Fourtowns Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by two daughters Mrs Hilda Gibbs (Australia) and Mrs. Edith Crawford (Larne), one son Mr Edwin Bryson (Lisnabrague Lodge), sons-in-law Eric and Robert, daughter-in-law Jan, nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. To these and all other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended.

The funeral took place from her home privately on Sunday for a service in Fourtowns Presbyterian Church. The Church being filled to capacity with many mourners standing outside when her minister the Rev. Mark Wilson gave a fitting account of her life. ‘The 23rd Psalm’, ‘Psalm 100’ and ‘Psalm 84’ were sung. Mrs. Olive Knox presided at the organ. The interment took place in the adjoining Churchyard.
