Mayfield Link proving treacherous for drivers

CONCERNS have been expressed at the large number of road collisions caused by snow and ice on the treacherous link road at Mayfield in times of bad weather.

"I had a number of residents approach me concerned at the lack of gritting and the number of accidents caused because of it on this road. We are lucky that no serious incidents occurred,” said local councillor Nigel Hamilton.

“Given the close proximity of Mayfield to the gritting centre it seems ridiculous that some gritting did not take place, especially when the number of accidents only establishes a false economy by drawing in the number of other services that are required to deal with the results - ambulance, hospital, police, DRD - where are the economies of scale?” asked the local alderman.

Mr Hamilton said he has already requested that the DRD consider several locations throughout the borough where additional gritting be included in the schedule both in urban and rural locations.
