Councillor David Harding stated: “This devastating announcement is not only a blow to borough of Coleraine, but is detrimental to everyone in Northern Ireland accessing the DVLA service.

“The Coleraine economy has suffered in recent years, as it was clear from published reports, that jobs should have been brought to the Borough, were instead moved to other areas.

“Three hundred families will be shocked and devastated by this news. This has a serious impact on their well being, and on the local economy for future generations.

“Coleraine Borough Council has supported the staff of DVLA. I lead a team of Ministers and union members to No10, pleading with them not to take away the DLVA jobs from Coleraine.

“This has all been in vain, as today we now need to see how we can support these families to rebuild their futures, hopefully within the Borough of Coleraine.”
