In his Christmas message he said: “It is hard to believe that Christmas is almost upon us and it is wonderful to see the festive spirit well and truly alive in our Borough – from our largest towns to our smallest villages it is a delight to travel around and enjoy the Christmas lights.

“This last eight months has been a wonderful experience for me as the very first Lord Mayor of the brand new Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council. It has also been the busiest eight months of my life but I have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome I have received from everyone.

“I have attended hundreds of events and met thousands of people so far and feel very privileged to be the first citizen of the Borough and to serve all residents.

“Whether a large high profile event or a small community event, each one is just as important and I look forward to continuing my duties for the next six months.

“Christmas is such a special time of year and I know we all enjoy having the opportunity to take some time out from the bustle of everyday life and spend it with our family and friends, reflecting on the year gone by and planning for the future. It is a time to feel thankful for everything that we have while also offering a helping hand and support to those less fortunate in our community.

“On that note I would like to encourage residents to look out for each other, keep an eye on those most vulnerable in our society and spare a thought for those who may find Christmas a difficult time as they remember loved ones who are no longer with us.

“I hope this Christmas will be a peaceful occasion for all of you,” said the Mayor.
