Mayor confident of '˜further investment'

The Borough's Mayor, Michelle Knight McQuillan, told a meeting of Council last Tuesday night that she believes we will see further investment in the area soon.

Cllr Knight McQuillan was speaking after Sinn Fein councillor Dermot Nicholl put forward a motion calling on Council to liase with Invest Northern Ireland and other Government bodies to address the lack of investment in the area.

Cllr Nicholl described the the Causeway Coast and Glens area as ‘an area of neglect’ and pointed out that investment was ‘very much needed’ in the Borough.

Responding, the Mayor told those present that the DETI Minister had been in the area recently, and that she had ‘made him aware’ of the need for investment.

“I am confident we will see further investment in this area soon,” told Cllr Knight McQuillan.

Director of Leisure and Development, Richard Baker told the meeting that the Council had a ‘good relationship’ with Invest Northern Ireland and that meetings were held monthly.

Cllr Nicholl added: “I just feel that the more pressure we put on these bodies, we will have a better chance of a result. In some cases it’s those who shout the loudest that get the furthest,” said the Sinn Fein man.

On being put to a vote, the proposal was carried.
