Mayor congratulates local high achievers

Ballymena Mayor, Audrey Wales has extended congratulations to various individuals, groups and businesses in the borough on the achievements they have made during the past month.

Six people who had been honoured in the Queen’s Birthday list - Norman McBurney who received an OBE for services to the Haulage Industry and the community through Ballymena United Football Club; MBE recipients, Ivy Ridge for services to Minority Ethnic Communities in Northern Ireland, Andrew Millar for services to the Scout movement and to the community in Northern Ireland, and, Dr Fiona Jane Stewart for services to Genetics in Northern Ireland; BEM recipients Frank Cassidy for services to Community Cohesion through Ballymena Learning Together, and Anna May Wharry for services to the community in Carnlough. - All of which, the Mayor, pointed out will be invited to a civic reception in recognition of their respective honours.

Radio Cracker which has been recognised with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2013 for providing a community based radio service to support fundraising activities.

Ballymena Academy pupils, Lucy Adair, Julie Kernohan, Rebecca Lightbody and Ellie McClean on winning the Sentinus Engineering Solutions competition at Queen’s University with their design of a solar and wind powered bus. They will represent NI at The Big Bang in Birmingham.
