Mayor: Donate to food banks this Christmas to prevent hunger

As Prime Minister David Cameron left Belfast on Friday (December 12) with agreement on flags, the past, parades and welfare reform nowhere in sight, the Mayor of Londonderry asked people from the most economically deprived part of the United Kingdom to consider donating to food banks this Christmas to prevent fellow citizens going hungry.

The Mayor, Brenda Stevenson said: “I would urge all of us to do what we can to help others over this festive period - even if it’s just to donate a toy to one of the many local toy appeals, add a few extra items to your food shop and donate to the Food Bank or simply check in on your elderly neighbour or friend - we can all make a difference this Christmas.”

The Mayor made the appeal as part of her wider Christmas and New Year message.
