Mayor in litter plea

THE regular littering of certain areas of Ballymena, not least Princes Street and Clarence Street, "is beginning to get alarming", the Mayor, Cllr Maurice Mills says.

Speaking out on the issue at the local authority’s July meeting, last week, Ballymena’s First Citizen said people should “stop and think about the cost” involved in clearing up litter before they cast their rubbish aside.

“When are people going to catch themselves on and put things into the receptacles provided,” he stormed.

The Mayor highlighted Princes Street and Clarence Street as areas where repeat offending occurred.

“There are certain areas where it seems to occur, and reoccur and reoccur and it’s beginning to get alarming,” he said.

“Something has to be done and, given the cost, it will be done!” said the Mayor.
