Mayor launches annual Wings Appeal

the Larne public is being urged to “be part of something special” by supporting the annual Royal Air Forces Association Wings Appeal.

Mayor of Larne, Councillor Bobby McKee launched the 2011 Larne branch Wings Appeal in the company of chairman and appeal organiser John H Kirkpatrick MBE; treasurer / welfare officer George Deakin and assistant welfare officer Alice Deakin.

Mr Kirkpatrick said that, thanks to 18 Lyons and Osborne King, the Wing’s Appeal shop will open in Murrayfield Shopping Centre on Monday, September 12 for two weeks. All support and donations will be gratefully received.

“Again I appeal to the generosity of the Larne and Ballyclare general public to support this year’s Battle of Britain Wings Appeal and increase last year’s total of £10,156 collection,” Mr Kirkpatrick said.

“During the last year the welfare need and the cost of it has reached record levels and we therefore must increase our fundraising effort if we are to continue to meet the growing demand and provide the welfare support to those individuals who gave all that they had to give in our hour of need.

“We are very proud of the welfare work which we have achieved over a period of many years and this has only been made possible by the kind generosity of the general public in response to our annual Wing’s Appeal.

“Again, I sincerely appeal for new members to join the Association and assist in supporting the work of the Royal Air Forces Association.
