Mayor meets with Lisburn Retirement Group

THE Mayor, Councillor Brian Heading, recently met with Lisburn Retirement Group at the Bridge Community Centre.

Lisburn Retirement Group is a recently established community group which aims to bring elderly residents together once a month at a meeting held in the Bridge.

Mr Heading said: “It was an honour to be invited to meet with this newly formed community group. This seniors group was established by a local gentleman, Jim Magill, who uses one of the Council’s community minibuses to collect the group members and bring them to the Bridge Community Centre; and then he drives them home again after each meeting.

“The meetings are designed to be educational for the members so a different guest speaker attends each meeting. The use of guest speakers allows the members to interact with organisations and groups while socialising with their peers at the same time.

“I informed the members about the services provided by Lisburn City Council and the role of the Mayor within the Council and the Lisburn community, and answered any questions they had.

“It is very important for our elderly residents to keep in contact with their peers and it is great that such groups exist to provide a social network for elderly residents to interact with each other and third parties. I wish Lisburn Retirement Group every success for the future,” he concluded.
