Mayor Councillor Martin Reilly said the completion of the work was good news for the area and the city as a whole.

“This is a great example of successful partnership working between Local and Central Government, Statutory Agencies and local groups to bring about much needed recreational sports and leisure facilities in this area,” he said.

“I would like to congratulate everyone involved in this successful multi party arrangement on successfully developing an under-utilised space for the benefit of the whole community in such a short turnaround time.”

Gordon Moore, Chairman of Newbuildings Community and Environmental Association said the community was delighted with the completion of the facilities in time for the beginning of summer.
