Mayor praises college success

LISBURN City Council Mayor, Alderman William Leathem, has congratulated the South Eastern Regional College (SERC) for a very successful academic year.

“The list of awards which have been won by students, lecturers and the College itself this year is impressive and I am delighted that the College is continuing to develop, providing a diverse range of courses, both academic and vocational,” said the Mayor.

In the upcoming academic year, the number of applicants for full time courses has increased by 20%. For part-time courses applications have increased by 50% from the same time last year.

The College is also developing new tailored courses and introducing financial incentives and discounts for early enrolment, the unemployed and those aged over 60 years.

“I would like to congratulate all those involved in SERC for their success including the Senior Management Team, lecturers and the students themselves. The College continues to respond to the needs of the market place, equipping students, from all walks of life, with the right skills and knowledge to compete in these difficult times as well as positioning itself as a top class education and training provider in the City,” said Alderman Leathem.

The Mayor also praised the college for their involvement in the City’s newest radio station, Lisburn 98.8FM.

“It is exciting that Lisburn has now its own radio station, broadcasting from the campus and I’d like to recognise the efforts of all the volunteers involved. There is no doubt that the Lisburn campus of SERC is going from strength to strength and we are all very proud of its considerable achievements.”
