Mayor reads for Talking Newspaper

THE Mayor of Lisburn, Alderman William Leathem took some time last week to pay a visit to the Recording Studio of Lisburn Leo Talking Newspaper and assist with the weekly recording of articles from the Ulster Star.

Mr Leathem read the ‘lead’ article from the Ulster Star and passed on a personal message of best wishes to the listeners and thanks to the volunteers who carry out the weekly recording, for the benefit of blind and partially sighted members of the Greater Lisburn community.

The Mayor also took an interest in how the recording was made and circulated to the listeners and was interested when told that volunteers to assist with simple technician tasks were needed.

The Leo volunteers were delighted when the Mayor spent some time with them after the reading, in The Avenue Cafe, a part of Stepping Stones, which is the Mayor’s Nominated Charity this year.

Before leaving the Mayor thanked all the volunteers for their work on behalf of the blind and partially sighted community and wished them much success for the future.
