Mayor: Somme parade judgement is ‘shameful’
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, DUP councillor Michelle Knight McQuillan has described the decision by the Parades Commision to restrict next Wednesday’s annual Battle of the Somme parade as ‘shameful’.
“This parade has been attended by both sides of the community in the past due to the significance of its purpose” says councillor Knight-McQuillan.
“It is with regret that such a poignant event has been marred by the actions of a minority who are intent on causing havoc, provocation and disorder at any opportunity.
“This is not the will of the majority of residents of this community and it is shameful that this commission have made such a judgement.”
