Mayor thanks Dallat for service to the Borough

THE mayor of Coleraine, councillor Sandy Gilkinson, says that John Dallat's "leadership, contribution and humour" will be missed in the Council Chamber.

Councillor Gilkinson was speaking after Tuesday’s Council meeting, when councillor Dallat announced that he was stepping down from Council duties.

“I wish to thank Councillor Dallat for his outstanding service to the people of this borough.

“His leadership, contribution and humour will be missed in the Council Chamber,” said the mayor.

“John was elected to Coleraine Borough Council in 1977. Since then he has given over 33 years of selfless service to the citizens of this Borough. He was Mayor from 2001 to 2002, and served two terms of office as Deputy Mayor.

“John brought to Council a wealth of experience from his teaching career, his knowledge of business studies, and his Assembly duties. His love of the Kilrea town land was reflected in his enthusiasm and support for the local community in that area.

“ Hin debates was always well informed but above all else, his commitment and energy for work on behalf of the community was remarkable.

“We wish John every success with his continued role in the Northern Ireland Assembly and hope that he has a ‘little bit’ more free time to spend with his wife Anne and his children.

“His contribution to the betterment of this borough cannot be overstated.”
