Mayor to host Diamond Jubilee tea dance

THE Mayor, Alderman William Leathem, will host a Diamond Jubilee Tea Dance on Wednesday July 4 in the Island Hall at Lagan Valley Island.

The event continues the Council’s Diamond Jubilee events, held in honour of Her Majesty The Queen’s 60-year reign. The Tea Dance will run from 2-4pm, with music provided by Housty. The Mayor has extended a warm invitation to any persons who would like to attend the Tea Dance to come along and join in the hospitality.

The Mayor would also like to extend an invitation to groups and organisations, to local community groups, to couples and to people who want to meet up with others and have a good time.

The event is free of charge and anyone who wishes to make a voluntary donation may do so, which will be in aid of the Mayor’s Charity, Stepping Stones. Stepping Stones integrates persons with learning disabilities and learning difficulties into society through its training programmes which are of an educational and practical nature, helping people to make the very best of their talents.

The Mayor said: “I extend this invitation to the young, the old and the young at heart. We will be delighted to meet and greet the Fred Astaires and Ginger Rogers of this world, and those with slightly less rhythm, as the majority of us have, are very welcome to take to the floor as well.

“In essence we wish to capture some of the music, dancing and enjoyment that the Tea Dances from previous decades brought to people’s lives and of course I want to bring people from across the community together to share an afternoon of fun,” he concluded.
