Mayor urges: ‘Put a smile on your mug for MacMillan’

Now in its 22nd year, The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is one of the biggest fundraising events in the UK. Last year, across Northern Ireland alone, over 800 coffee mornings were held, raising an amazing total of £226,000.

Macmillan’s fundraising manager in the area, Joanne Young, said: “Macmillan is available to all cancer patients and their families from the moment they receive their cancer diagnosis. Our doctors and nurses offer specialist medical care and emotional support, while our benefits advisors help cancer patients get the government benefits and grants they are entitled to.

“Macmillan will even provide grants to people with cancer who are struggling financially. All the services we offer are essential, and we rely on the money raised from events like the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to fund them. So we are asking the people of Larne to put a smile on their mug and help Macmillan reach more people affected by cancer in their area.”

Cllr Mulvenna, who has supported The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning throughout the years, said: “It is a fantastic community event for everyone to get involved in. I believe that it’s actually a fact that there is not one person in the community that is not affected directly or indirectly by cancer. I am, therefore, delighted to support the event in aid of such a great cause.”

Joanne urged: “The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is a really fun event that is so easy to take part in, especially as you can tailor it to suit yourself. If you can’t do it on September 28, then pick another day; if you’re not keen on coffee and would rather have cocktails, or even herbal tea, then that’s fine as well. People can be so busy, that catching up with friends, workmates or even family can be difficult. This event gives them a reason to make time for what matters while also doing something really valuable for people with cancer and their families.
