Mayor visits Cairncastle Lodge to ‘encourage cooperation’

LARNE Mayor Gerardine Mulvenna paid a visit to Cairncastle Orange Hall on the Twelfth to greet local Orange brethren.

The Alliance councillor met members of Cairncastle LOL 629 upon their return from the Flagship Twelfth parade in Carrickfergus, and told the Times she received “a very warm welcome”.

“I am happy to support any organisation celebrating its culture and I wouldn’t exclude anyone. That is the way I was raised and the way I brought up my children,” she added.

“The band marched through Ballygally on their way to catch the bus to the main parade in Carrick, and lots of people turned out in the village to support them, as they do every year.

“Having been recently elected mayor for the first time, I thought it would be appropriate to go and meet the band after their return parade.

“I was given a very warm welcome and I was delighted to speak to Bobby Acheson and other members, who I know quite well.

“I am more than happy to do anything I can to encourage cooperation between different cultures within the community,” Cllr Mulvenna concluded.
