Councillor Ashe said: “This is part of the Greenisland Revitalise Scheme and will result in a £17,000 investment in providing new signage, painting repairs and other upgrades for targeted properties in the area.

“This will improve the visual appearance of previously run-down retail properties through enhancements to shop frontages and gable walls.”

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council will receive £15,300 from the Department for Social Development (DSD) for the scheme.

It will include shop front improvements, new seating and hanging baskets.

Around a dozen properties set to benefit from the programme.

Match funding of £2,000 for the scheme was recently approved by the council’s Economic Growth and Development Committee.

It follows the establishment of the Greenisland Regeneration Group in expectation that the proposed funding was identified within the Department’s budget.
