Mayor’s breakfast to support CRY

Prior to the event, alderman Bradley met with local CRY representative, John Lundy, and CRY Northern Ireland Patron and Ulster Rugby star, Gary Longwell, at the Lodge Hotel to sample some of the tasty treats that will be on offer on the day.

The charity was founded in 1995 to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to Young Sudden Cardiac Death (YSCD); Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS): Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome/Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS).

Mayor Bradley said: “There are few things more tragic than when a fit and healthy young person is struck down in the prime of life.

“I am glad that I am able to support CRY who do such good work in raising awareness of Young Sudden Cardiac Death and other related syndromes, as well as promoting screening for young people.

“I am sure the people of this Borough will recognise what a worthwhile cause this is and will come along on the day to support the Charity Breakfast.”

CRY aim to promote and protect the cardiac health of young people by establishing good practice and screening facilities devoted to trying to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death throughout the UK.

John Lundy, local CRY representative, said: “We are very honoured that the mayor has chosen CRY to be the beneficiary of this year’s Charity Breakfast.

“ Maurice recently attended the CRY Screening Clinic at the University to learn more about cardiac screening for young people. He is very active in sport so he knows the importance of health in our young people.

“We were absolutely delighted when he identified CRY as his charity of choice. It underlines once again the awareness in the Triangle area of Cardiac Risk in the Young. The ongoing task that we face is promoting awareness of Cardiac Risk in other towns and boroughs where the risks are less well known.

“We would encourage as many people as possible to attend the breakfast. All proceeds will go towards building awareness of Cardiac Risk and in ensuring that we can continue to offer screening for the young people living in Coleraine Borough.”

CRY’S next screening clinic in Coleraine will be held on September 1-2 and will be offered at no charge to anyone wishing to be screened.
