Mayor’s tea dance on Silver Sunday

The tea dance will take place at Pilot’s Row between 2pm – 4pm, just one of a whole host of free activities being held throughout the country.

The Mayor, Brenda Stevenson said: “I am absolutely delighted to be able to host this event for some of the older members of our community. Often we can overlook the huge difference made to our daily lives by older people, who have inspired, educated and nurtured each and every one of us.

“This is just a very small way to celebrate the invaluable role they play, and it’s a great way for people to get together to share stories and memories. I know that older people can sometimes feel isolated, so events such as this provide the opportunity to socialise, develop friendships and get involved in the local community.

“I would encourage people to come along and celebrate Silver Sunday and spend a really enjoyable afternoon together.”

Silver Sunday was launched in 2012 by The Sir Simon Milton Foundation to combat the loneliness experienced by older residents and to encourage community interaction through an annual day of events.

It has now grown in momentum with hundreds of events being held nationwide, and the campaign has the backing of celebrities such as Terry Wogan and Joanna Lumley.
