Maze hotelis rejectedby planners

A PLANNING application for a new hotel near Lisburn has been rejected by the Planning Service.

The application was submitted in March 2009 by CHA Properties for a new hotel adjacent to the Down Royal Racecourse at the Maze.

The plans for the 50 bedroom hotel also included two function rooms, a restaurant, bar and a gym.

There were three letters of objection lodged with the Planning Service opposing the development and at this week’s meeting of Lisburn Council’s Planning Committee, permission for the scheme was refused.

In rejecting the application the Planning Service said the developers had “failed to demonstrate that a satisfactory car parking arrangement for the development can be achieved.”

They also stated the submitted details “failed to demonstrate that a safe and efficient access to the adjoining road network can be provided, thereby prejudicing the road safety and convenience of road users.”

The third stated reason for refusing the application was that the development is “unacceptable in terms of the scale, massing and design of the new building and would, if permitted, have an adverse impact on the local environment by reason of overdevelopment.”

It was also concluded that the hotel, if it went ahead, would have “an adverse impact on the countryside.”

Finally, the Planners stated that the hotel development would “harm the living conditions of the residents in Bridle View by reason of reduced amenity and noise disturbance.”
