McAnally romps to victory at Galgorm

THE Weekly Sweep continued at Galgorm Castle Golf Club and at the halfway stage in the Low Section, Campbell McAnally and Colin Steel were two points ahead of George McCooke with Philip Galloway another point behind.

With three holes to play McAnally had moved into a two point lead, with the help of four pars, from Steel with McCooke a further point back and Galloway trailing by another two points.

Over the closing holes McAnally finished with a par, birdie, bogey for a clear four point victory.

There was a close finish for the remaining two places between Steel, McCooke and Galloway. Steel finished bogey, par, par; McCooke (par, bogey, par) and Galloway (three pars) and with a better back six Galloway took second place with McCooke (better back six) in third position.

In the High Section William Kennedy was out in front by one point from George McDowell by one point with Stephen McCooke three points further adrift.

Through 12, Kennedy still led by one point from McDowell with McCooke down by another four points.

With two to play McDowell had overtaken Kennedy (double bogey, birdie) and led by two points with the help of a birdie and par. S McCooke had closed the gap by one point.

G McDowell held onto his two point lead as he finished with two pars for victory. McCooke tried valiantly to catch Kennedy when he finished par, birdie but Kennedy (two pars) held on for second place one point ahead of McCooke.

In a close finish for the Gross, Liam Reilly jnr just pipped David Kernohan with a better back nine. Reilly's card included one bogey, one birdie and all the rest pars. Kernohan's card included two 'dings' which did not help him in his quest for victory.
