McCloy near death shows kit value

The near death of County Londonderry GAA star Kevin McCloy in Dungiven has been recently cited as an argument for the roll-out of a map-based register of defibrillators throughout Northern Ireland.

Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan said: “The Owenbeg GAA facility outside Dungiven has three units on its premises, and their importance was seen recently when Derry star Kevin McCloy collapsed during a local league match.

“Kevin’s heart stopped for a few minutes, and one of the defibrillators was used to restart it. I am glad to say that he is making good progress towards a full recovery.

“We have also seen young rugby players, referees and soccer players collapsing during games. All those who survived owe their life to the defibrillator. Unfortunately, some of those who were treated did not survive.”
