Welcoming his resounding endorsement by the Association members, he commented: “I am deeply honoured to have been unanimously chosen as the DUP candidate for the 2015 Westminster election. I am looking forward to the election campaign and I hope that it will be a clean and honest contest between now and polling day.

People in South Antrim and beyond are fed up with personalised and negative campaigning. It is my intention to be relentlessly positive about South Antrim and its people during this campaign. If you have a strong record and a positive message to share then you do not need to resort to negative campaigning.

“It has been my honour to represent the people of South Antrim in Parliament. My first, last and only allegiance in the House of Commons is to the people of this constituency. I am South Antrim’s man in Parliament, not Parliament’s man in South Antrim.”

He continued: “The challenges facing the constituency over the coming months and years are immense. The massive cuts implemented by the Tories have hurt everyone in some way or another. Senior citizens, working families, students, businesses, none have been immune from the cuts agenda implemented by the Tory government.

“My loyalty to the people of this constituency means that I use my vote in Parliament to oppose measures that hurt South Antrim. I hope that people will recognise the need to combine hard work on the ground with standing up for South Antrim in Parliament and I look forward to campaigning on the essential issues that people can relate to most in the months ahead.”
