McCrea commends police after tobacco and cash worth £24k seized in Cookstown

A Mid Ulster MLA has commended police on a job well done, after £20,000 worth of illicit tobacco and £4,000 cash were seized by officers from Dungannon Crime Team at a property in Cookstown.

The DUP’s Ian McCrea said: “I congratulate the police on their successful raid of a property in the Rathbeg area of Cookstown which resulted in the seizure of £20,000 worth of contraband cigarettes, tobacco and £4,000 cash.

“It is important that we send out a strong message to those involved that we won’t tolerate criminality by ensuring that information is given to the police to help them tackle this scourge on our society.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “No arrests have been made and enquiries are continuing.

“Criminality can come in many different forms and has a negative impact on communities, including local businesses. I am confident that our proactive efforts here show that local police are committed to tackling crime and keeping people safe.”
