“I am delighted to receive an assurance that she is committed and working hard to extending this facility to towns in the West including Cookstown, Magherafelt and Dungannon,” he said.

Mr McCrea said it follows an Assembly question that he submitted to the Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, asking for an update on the extension of the natural gas network to the Mid Ulster area.

“Whilst there is still a way to go, the Minister is anticipating that main pipeline construction works could begin before the end of 2015,” he continued.

“This will be a massive boost for the area not only in more competitive gas prices, but also a welcomed boost to the construction industry.

“I commend the DETI Minister on her determination to see this project happen and I assure the people of Mid Ulster I will continue to lobby the Minister to see the provision of natural gas in Mid Ulster become a reality as soon as possible.”
