McDonald's staff tackle litter problem

McDONALD'S staff swapped flipping burgers for bagging rubbish this week.

And after reading about litter problems on William Street in the 'MAIL' a team of staff from Rushmere and Lurgan's fast food outlets tackled the problem area.

Gareth Moore, business manager for the Rushmere store, said: "We toured the town looking for an area that needed attention.

"But, unbelievably, we could not find anywhere that needed our attention.

"After reading the story in the 'MAIL' about the litter problem near the rail crossing we decided to head there."

The initiative is part of a wider project between McDonald's and Tidy NI.

Staff from across the province's stores donned hi-vis vests and took to the streets armed with bin liners.

Gareth continued: "Obviously fast food containers can make up a big amount of litter on our streets.

"And this scheme is our way of trying to help with the problem."

McDonald’s staff collected over 17 bags of rubbish including plastic bottles, crisp packets, copper wiring and old cigarette boxes.
