McGlaughlin’s Bakery opens in Maghera

TRADITIONAL baking at its best, that’s the ethos of the family-run business McGlaughlin’s Bakery and that’s what you’ll find at their new shop in Maghera.

The Cookstown-based business has been going for 50 years and has been a remained a family affair ever since. The current bakery in Cookstown and the new Maghera shop is run by John McGlaughlin and his parents David and Ruth.

“We sell our products wholesale across Northern Ireland. We sell right up to the north coast, a lot of fresh cream products sell in Derry city, Portadown and Lurgan, but the opportunity rose so we decided to open a new shop in Maghera,” John explained.

The Cookstown bakery has a staff of 28 and makes a wide range of baked goods, from traybakes to special occasion cakes, breads and pastries as well as fresh cream buns. John says their best-sellers change but their soda farls, fresh cream buns and cupcakes are always popular.

All of these delectible products are freshly homebaked and will be available in the Maghera shop.

You can also pick up a cup of coffee and enjoy lunch at their deli counter where you can get sandwiches and paninis freshly-made up.

The new bakery shop is based on the Coleraine Road, and despite having only just opened, John said the feedback from the public has been good. “People have been saying a shop like ours has been long overdue in the town which is good to hear,” he said.

So whether you want home-baked bread, a freshly-made lunch, or a special treat then McGlaughlin’s Bakery is sure to deliver the goods.
