Newly elected Sinn Féin councillor for Carntogher, Brian McGuigan has welcomed a briefing by DRD Road Service officials which stated that work is to begin on strenghtening the stretch of the Fivemilestraight from Lisnamuck Crossroads to Moneyneany, with an intention to resurface pending a successful bid being put forward in relation to the next round of roads funding.

The Ballinascreen based councillor also welcomed resurfacing work which is hoped to be completed during the current financial year on the Tobermore Road, Draperstown stretching from Moykeeran Drive to the junction with Mulnavoo Road. Cllr. McGuigan said: “ Road Service officials also hope to be able to incorporate the widening of the footpath for the increasing numbers of members of the public who walk along this stretch of roadway for purposes of improving health and well being.”

The Sinn Féin representative also stated that he has been given a commitment that road resurfacing is to commence this year on the Disert Road along a stretch close to Blackwater Bridge.

Cllr McGuigan added: “Sinn Féin representatives will continue to put a strong focus on all issues in relation to our local roads network. The safety of pedestrians and motorists is paramount.”
