Dunloy Sinn Fein councillor Philip McGuigan said: “I was pleased that I was able to get the council to commit to this project which when completed will greatly enhance the facilities not just at the play park but also in the village as a whole.

“The previous tarmacked playing surface and goal area were outdated and in disrepair. The new facility will have a modern polymeric surface with goal nets as well as a basketball area and nets.

“This will give the children of the village an added option and I have no doubt they will be excitedly awaiting its completion.

“It is certainly a facility that will get plenty of use.”

Meanwhile, Cllr McGuigan also welcomed the road improvement scheme due to begin on the Bellaghy road between Presbytery Lane and Glenbuck road.

“This part of the road has been in need of improvement now for a while. It has been cut up badly in parts causing large holes to develop in places. This has led recently to a number of vehicles damaging tyres and wheels. I therefore welcome this £180k investment.”
