The event hosted by Mr McGuinness and new Deputy Mayor Catherine Seeley, entitled ‘An Audience with Martin McGuinness – “Building a Better Future’ was attended by a wide section of the community from across the area.

Speaking after the event deputy First Minister McGuinness said, “It is a privilege to be back in Banbridge, meeting with and engaging with a very diverse group of people, across numerous sectors – under the theme of ‘Building a Better Future’.”

He continued, “I believe this event was a very positive, worthwhile engagement and I hope that it will act as a starting point for further conversations and discussions in Banbridge and across the wider area.”

Mr McGuinness MLA concluded, “Having these uncomfortable conversations does not make us any more, or less, Irish or British, it does not change our political allegiances or our strongly held beliefs.

“But we must all have these uncomfortable conversations, if we are all to move forward together to build a better future.

“I and my party remain committed to the process of engagement with all sections of opinion within our community.”
