McGuinness - Mid-Ulster should not lose A&E services

SINN Féin MP for Mid Ulster Martin McGuinness MLA has stated that the Mid Ulster Hospital should not lose its A&E services.

“The decision to move A&E services away from the Mid Ulster Hospital is the wrong decision. It will place a further strain on local health services and has created a black hole of emergency cover for some areas of the Mid Ulster region,” said the Deputy First Minister.

“Local people will be very concerned about this move and I will be contacting Michael McGimspey on this matter.

“While I understand there are pressures on the overall health budget, prioritising short term gains to save money, over long term, needs based, planning is not the way forward.”

Meanwhile, a Sinn Fein delgation including Mr McGuinness, Francie Molloy MLA and Michelle O'Neill MLA met with Colm Donaghy CE last Friday to argue for the retention of A&E at Mid-Ulster hospital.

They also met with members of staff from the hospital to hear their concerns around how this move will impact on them as staff but also on the community served by the hospital.
