McIlveen challenges cuts to early years funding

Northern Antrim MLA David McIlveen challenged the Minister for Education in relation to cuts to Early Years Funding which he said will “take much needed money from community-led childcare”.

During question time this week in the Northern Ireland Assembly, the DUP MLA asked Minister John O’Dowd in relation to what support the Department of Education would make available to groups in rural communities who he described as being “n the cold face of cuts facing pre-school funding places”.

Commenting on this, Mr McIlveen said: “Rural Communities can be particularly vulnerable when it comes to funding cuts.

“It is extremely important that politicians continue to challenge such cuts and I, as MLA for North Antrim, will continue to campaign to ensure that such groups are not adversely affected.”

Mr McIlween added: “There is no more vulnerable group in our society than our children and it is important that Ministers invest in our future generation.

“I will continue to stand up for the people that I am privileged to represent.”
