McIlveen is seeking local allotment site

BALLYMENA people have been encouraged to adopt a ‘grow your own’ lifestyle by North Antrim DUP assemblyman, David McIlveen ... and now he’s on the hunt for a suitable site for allotments.

Mr McIlveen has approached council officials with a view to creating an allotment site in the Ballymena area.

The MLA said: “I have met with council officials who are extremely enthusiastic about this concept. They had previously issued an appeal for interested parties to register interest for an allotment scheme.

“To date, a potential site has not been forthcoming, so I have decided to campaign on behalf of my constituents to find a suitable site. I would urge any landowners in the Ballymena Borough Council area who think they may have a suitable parcel of land to contact either myself or council officials with a view to discussing the suitablitiy for an allotment.’

Mr McIlveen says it is high time that Ballymena benefited from such a site: “I feel very strongly that this would benefit the Ballymena area greatly.

“I know some of my constituents have no access to a garden area, so an allotment is the only possible alternative. I hope we can find a suitable portion of land in order to progress this idea for the people of Ballymena.

“I would also urge any constituents who would be interested in an allotment plot to contact myself or council officials to register their interest,” he added.
