McKay hands in papers for Westminster election

Speaking after handing his his nomination papers for the forthcoming Westminster election, Mr McKay said: “Sinn Féin are standing in this election on a positive progressive ticket. People in North Antrim want to see political progress, they want to see an end to sectarian politics and they want to see political change.

“Westminster is the antithesis of political change and that is why we want to see more powers being transferred to the Assembly so that we can make decisions that are in the best interests of our economy, our tourism sector and local communities.

“People are fed up with political parties here that accept unquestionably that we have to accept the recommendations of the Tory administration.

“We are totally opposed to racism, sectarianism and homophobia. We are the only party standing up for the rights of the disabled and low paid workers. We will robustly defend the welfare state as workers will need that safety net when large employers close leaving hundreds looking for work and under immense financial and emotional stress.

“A vote for Sinn Féin is a vote for the only party that will stand up to the Westminster Government on issues that matter to communities in the north. We have totally opposed the closure of our local hospitals and care homes. I am also bringing forward a Bill in the Assembly this year that will abolish rates for amateur sports clubs and that will include the many clubs here in North Antrim that play soccer, rugby and Gaelic Games.

“Political change is in the air at this election and we in Sinn Féin will use our mandate to continue to deliver change across the island for communities, for public services and for working families.”
