McKay welcomes drop in unemployment figures

Sinn Féin North Antrim MLA Daithí McKay has welcomed the fall in unemployment but said efforts towards job creation must be increased.

Mr McKay said; “The fall in unemployment figures this month is to be welcomed with 600 fewer people without jobs.

“The figures have also shown a drop in economic inactivity levels to an all-time low.

“Despite this, unemployment levels remain too high and just this week we unfortunately saw the loss of further jobs at Aer Lingus in Belfast.

Unemployment and economic inactivity in the North is still higher than in Britain which clearly shows that the partition and the union are continuing to hamper our economy..

“It is vital that all parties work together to attract investment, support start-ups and create more jobs and opportunities in our society and actively promote the all-island economy.”
