McKillop calls for additional signage for Cushendall

The councillor says many people - including tourists in large campervans - are missing the turn and are travelling up High Street and carrying on along Ballybrack Road.

This, she says, can cause difficulty for larger vehicles such as campervans.

“This road is very narrow and is not suitable for certain vehicles over a certain size and this problem is going to lead to serious accident,” said the councillor.

“Tourists in cars also seem to have the same problem and inadvertently end up on the Ballybrack Road and end up lost while travelling to Ballycastle.”

Councillor McKillop has raised the issue with Roads Service and has asked for a site meeting to discuss the problem.

“A few suggestions would be moving the sign at the corner to the other side but this might spoil the few of the Curfew Tower or making the sign bigger.

Another suggestion would be to put one at the bottom of the Ballybrack Road directing the traffic down the Mill Brae,” she said.

SANDBAGS

Meanwhile Cllr McKillop has thanked DRD Roads Service for providing a container for sandbags in Cushendall.

“This will mean in the future there is a safe and secure location for the sandbags to be stored and will mean anyone in need will be

able to avail of sandbags in the Cushendall area,” she said.

“No one in the Glens thought they would need sandbags in the middle of summer but the lack of sandbags became an issue again with torrential rain falling this month.

“Many roads were blocked and a lot of homes were at risk and three flooded in the area.

“This shortage in the Glens meant that many people had to wait to be delivered sandbags by the Rivers Agency or Roads Service.

“Therefore having this container in the area alleviates the problem,” she added.
