McKillop disappointment over Cushendall zebra crossing

GLENS Sinn Fein Councillor Margaret Anne Mc Killop has expressed her disappointment that Roads Service have decided not to install a zebra crossing between Knockmoy Fold and Eurospar on The Coast Road in Cushendall.

Speaking about the decision, Councillor Mc Killop said: “I had asked Roads Service about the possibility of installing a zebra crossing due to the number of elderly residents and school children in the area who cross the road every day. Roads Service did carry out a survey however they found that the number of people who cross the road each day does not meet their criteria for installing a zebra crossing.

“This is extremely disappointing, are Roads Service using the same criteria to decide if they should install crossings in rural villages as they do in urban areas?

“The strict use of criteria without taking into account the opinions of elected representatives and local people is wrong and it is unfortunate that Roads Service do not currently think it would be possible to install a crossing where it is so obviously needed.”
