McKillop praises Salmon and Whiskey Festival

TUV councillor Sharon McKillop has praised the Bushmills Salmonand Whisket Festival.

“I have been involved with Bushmills Salmon and Whiskey Festival since its inception four years ago. Each year it continues grow and to be a wonderful success, drawing people from far beyond Bushmills,” she said.

“It is a unique event presenting locals with an opportunity to celebrate our local heritage and culture as well as enjoy two things for which Bushmills is rightly famous - salmon and whiskey.

“Events quite literally kicked off with a youth five-a-side football tournament. This was followed by a dance to raise funds for a statue to commemorate local Victoria Cross winner and First World War hero Robert Quigg.

“Saturday saw a packed programme of events ranging from tours of the salmon fishery and Bushmills Distillery to glass blowing, storytelling and a street market featuring local artisans and food producers.

“Sunday’s events included pop and hip hop dancing, vintage afternoon teas and a 10k fun run among other things.

“An event like this doesn’t take place without considerable planning and time. As chair of the Festival Committee I would like to thank the many volunteers without whose efforts it simply could not have happened.

“This year’s festival attracted a significant number of visitors and provides an opportunity for everyone to highlight the attractions of the village and the talent, spirt and creativity of local people but most of all it provided locals and visitors alike the opportunity to have a bit of fun.”
