McKillop welcomes support for Glens of Antrim

SDLP East Antrim Assembly candidate Councillor Margaret Anne McKillop has welcomed the Environment Minister's allocation of £15,000 to Causeway, Coast and Glens Heritage trust to support ongoing work to protect Areas of Outstanding Beauty

Speaking after the announcement, Cllr McKillop said:

“I’m delighted that my party colleague and Environment Minister Mark H Durkan has allocated additional resources to Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust to support and protect Areas of Outstanding Beauty across the Glens.

“This additional money reflects the SDLP’s commitment to protecting and enhancing the natural heritage here which is critical for our tourism industry. The Glens of Antrim are known internationally as one of the most beautiful spots in the world. It’s important that we do all we can to protect and promote that status.

“The heritage trust will now be able to develop an ecosystems services plan for the Glens as well as undertaking a signage audit in our Areas of Outstanding Beauty. This will be a great boost for some very deserving work.

“The SDLP has proven that we will stand firm to protect our natural landscape and beautiful heritage. Whether it’s reducing dependency on plastic bags, protecting communities from fracking or investing to protect the local environment, we have not been found wanting.”
