McKinney pupils raise £850 for Habitat for Humanity

The school, which holds as Eco-Schools Green Flag recently held a ‘Shack Attack’ day in conjunction with the charity, when the pupils had the chance to create their own ‘shacks’ in the school playground.

Pupils built shacks from recycled materials which helped create an understanding about the challenges of living in poor housing.

Joshua and Emma from the school’s Eco Committee recently presented a cheque for £850 to Victoria from Habitat for Humanity.

Jenny Williams, Chief Executive of Habitat NI, said: “We so much appreciate the support of McKinney Primary School.

“It will make a big difference to families in urgent need of a safe place to call home.

“It’s a shocking statistic that one in four people in our world live in poor conditions.

“Safe shelter saves lives and thanks to this generous support more families will be healthier, children will do better in school and parents will have the chance to earn a stable income. Home is the start of it, for all of us.”
