On Friday, October 26, police received reports that a number of items, including chainsaws and a powerwasher, had been stolen from properties on the Drumcrow Road and Aughaboy Road areas. Detectives believe the thefts occurred the previous night.

And Mr McMullan has appealed to rural residents to be on their guard against people calling at their properties and asking to use their land for hunting purposes.

“I believe this is a ruse to get in and scope the place out, with the intention of returning later and stealing whatever farm equipment they can get their hands on,” the Sinn Fein representative added.

“I am also calling on police to do more to help people living in isolated areas by setting up a separate phone number to deal specifically with reports of agricultural crime.”
