McNamee’s ‘disgust’ at DUP

Councillor McNamee, before leaving Tuesday night’s Council meeting to attend his nephew Barry Shiels’ months mind Mass, thanked councillors, officers and staff for their support.

However he said he wanted to put on record his ‘disgust’ at the DUP for refusing to stand for the minute’s silence. “When we see the higher echelons of the DUP are reaching out, the DUP in Cookstown are still sitting back in their bigoted beds,” he said.

Recently DUP party leader Peter Robinson attended a GAA match with SF Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, however in the same week DUP councillor Maureen Lees was criticised for saying she would ‘rather die’ than be photographed with Sinn Fein.

It is the third time in a year Councillor McNamee’s family members have been snubbed by the DUP. His mother Lily, his brother Pius and more recently his nephew Barry, aged 24 have died. However members of the DUP had refused to stand for a minute’s silence.
