McShane hails new Facebook site

THE Chairman of Moyle Council, Councillor Padraig McShane, has welcomed the setting up of a new facebook page called ‘Things we would like to see in Ballycastle’.

By Tuesday March 20 the site had 665 members and was creating a big online debate.

Cllr McShane said: “The Facebook page has opened up local politics to a new generation. It has given a voice to many young people who otherwise would have felt slightly detached from the decision making process. I have been following the page on a daily basis and many of the goals are easily attainable. Some could be implemented almost immediately giving the groups members a platform to grow and develop.

“The decision to bring together members of the group to form a steering committee suggests the group are to be taken seriously and the will undoubtedly provide an invaluable source of information and ideas from an otherwise hard to reach age group.

“I would suggest that the group has the potential to challenge and change the face of local politics in the immediate future. The challenge for Councillors in Moyle is to embrace the new form of interaction with the public.”
